Our Game of Life sessions for the spring semester are coming up, and we are looking for volunteers to help us staff some of the booths.
Two dates: Friday, February 23rd: 5:30-7pm and Saturday, February 24th: 1-4pm
What is the game of life?
The Game of Life is a popular Career Flagship Program milestone event that helps our first year students learn about budgeting and everyday expenses after graduation. We are expecting hundreds of First Year students participating this semester and we could use your help!
Each participating student receives a starting salary (based on the VT average starting salary for the major they are in) and then visits different booths (staffed by wonderful volunteers) to make everyday financial decisions about transportation, housing, pets, food, etc. After visiting each booth, students balance their expenses and go through a counseling session about their decisions and outcome. Along the way, they learn about cost of living, employee benefits, income taxes, and other personal finance topics.
what would my role be as a volunteer?
Volunteers will be stationed at different booths and will assist students in choosing the best monthly budget amount based on their lifestyles and priorities (we’ll provide guidelines for all booths). Once a student decides on an amount, volunteers “approve” the amount by signing their budget sheet.
If you are interested in volunteering for either or both days, or if you’d like more information about your potential role or the event, please contact Jimena Huaco. We are hoping to have a final list of volunteers by Wednesday, February 14th.
Thank you for your ongoing support!
